One live printing press prints up to 60 shirts an hour. Our standard San Diego station runs two presses with two printers and clears 100+ an hour at full pace, and each guest waits about two minutes between picking a design and wearing it.
The ceiling is set by the press. What you actually get depends on the art (a one-color logo moves faster than a four-color print), how quickly guests pick, and whether the station is running screens, DTF or both. For heavy biotech and life-sciences conferences we add presses and crew to raise the ceiling.
Sizing live printing to a San Diego headcount
- Up to about 150 guests: one two-press station covers it. Think a rehearsal dinner in La Jolla or a brewery anniversary in North Park.
- 150 to 400: add a press or a second station so a company party at Liberty Station or a hotel ballroom mixer never builds a long wait.
- 400+ or a tight window: several stations side by side, which is what a busy San Diego Convention Center booth or a fairgrounds weekend usually calls for.
Crowd shape matters as much as crowd size. A convention aisle feeds the line steadily from open to close and usually earns a second press. A seated dinner in the Gaslamp sends people up in waves between courses, so one press keeps up. Tell us the room and the run time and we'll size it.
Where a San Diego live t-shirt printing line backs up
It's almost never the press. The wait builds at the design board and the size wall, where people stall over which print to take and whether they want the 2XL. At about two minutes a shirt and 100+ an hour from one two-press station, 300 attendees working a San Diego Convention Center booth take around three hours to get through. A Petco Park pre-game is the opposite problem: everyone walks up in the 90 minutes before first pitch, so we bring a second press or the back half of the line misses the anthem. Outdoor setups at Del Mar or on the bayfront catch the afternoon sea breeze, which means weighted canopies and folded stock kept in bins. Live embroidery and the hat bar in San Diego run on their own lines, so count those guests separately when you give us a number. The truck loads in Fullerton for the press count we settle on and comes down the I-5 that morning, so lock the count before the day.
